Burning the Old Year

I had a little bit crazy and a lotta bit therapeutic New Year. There really weren't many of us who stayed in the area for the New Year, so those of us who were left behind got together for a little soirée. We had a massive pot luck dinner, killed time playing games and then created an effigy of the old year. We were going to burn 2007 like a crazy heretic, and we did. We stuffed some old clothes with pages from the phone book and then shoved the old man in the trunk and took him up the canyon to meet his fiery demise.

On our way out we also found a Christmas tree on the road and brought it along to throw it on the pile. We rang in the New Year by dancing around the burning effigy of the old. Weird. We also brought crap from the last year that we never wanted to see again and threw that on the fire as well. It was strange, but somehow very satisfying.

As it was about 10 degrees out, once the burning was done we ran back to our cars and cranked up the heat. It was a little anti-climactic, but that is how I liked it. There would be no big to-do about leaving the old year behind. We just kick some snow on it and ran off. The end. That really is how I feel about the old year. I just want to kick some snow on the last burning embers and run off into the new.
